Uploads, downloads & transfers
Upload and download files and folders, copy between hosts, and handle name conflicts.
Uploads, downloads & transfers
Move files between this computer and a host, or between two hosts, from the SFTP file browser. Transfers run in the background, with progress, and you can keep browsing while they run.
Upload
- Drag and drop files or folders from Finder or Explorer onto the file list. They upload into the folder you're in.
- Toolbar Upload → Files… or Folders…, or right-click empty space → Upload Files… / Upload Folders….
- Copy files in Finder or Explorer, then Paste (⌘V / Ctrl+V) in the SFTP tab.
Download
- Click the download button at the end of a file's row to save that file.
- Select files and folders, then use the toolbar's Download or right-click → Download…, and choose a local folder. Folders download with everything inside them.
- Enter on a file that isn't text downloads it.
- Paste to Local… downloads whatever is on the SFTP clipboard.
Between hosts
Copy (or Cut) in one host's SFTP tab, then Paste in another host's tab. The files are copied from server to server, through this computer. Cut removes the originals after a successful paste.
The transfers bar
Running transfers appear in a bar at the bottom of the SFTP tab. Each shows how many files are done out of the total, and a progress bar. Cancel stops a transfer that's still planning or running. Before any bytes move, a large folder may show as planning while the app walks through it.
While anything is transferring, the status bar shows the live Rx and Tx speeds. See Transfer speed in the status bar.
When names already exist
If the destination already holds some of the incoming names, you're asked once per transfer, before anything is copied. The dialog lists the clashing items:
- Overwrite all — replace them.
- Skip existing — copy only what isn't there yet.
- Cancel — don't start.
Tips
- Copying the same folder into the same place does nothing, and the app tells you the items are already there.
- Slow or flaky link? Raise the SFTP connection timeout.
