Transfer speed in the status bar

While SFTP files are moving, the status bar at the bottom of the window shows how fast, so you can tell a slow link from a stalled transfer.

What you see

  • ↓ Rx — data received, i.e. downloads.
  • ↑ Tx — data sent, i.e. uploads.

The rates are live and cover every SFTP connection and tab at once, sampled once a second. Hover them for the number of active transfers and the exact rates.

The speeds appear as soon as a transfer starts and hide again shortly after the last one finishes. When nothing is moving, nothing runs in the background to measure it.

The rest of the status bar

Beside the transfer speeds, the status bar shows the focused terminal's machine, which is the remote host for an SSH session or this computer for a local shell:

  • its OS and IP address;
  • CPU usage, memory in use / total, and disk used / total, coloured as they get busy;
  • local time with its UTC offset, and UTC time;
  • the keyboard button, which opens Keyboard shortcuts.

Tips

  • Transfers seem slow over a jump chain? Every hop relays the data, so the slowest link sets the pace.
  • To see each transfer's progress, look at the transfers bar at the bottom of the SFTP tab. See Uploads, downloads & transfers.
