Open in Terminal from SFTP
While browsing a host's files, open a terminal on the same host that starts in the folder you're looking at, without typing cd and the path.
How to use it
In the SFTP file browser:
- right-click a folder → Open in Terminal to start in that folder;
- right-click a file → Open in Terminal to start in the folder that contains it;
- right-click empty space → Open in Terminal to start in the folder you're browsing.
With several items selected, the item is disabled, because there's no single folder to start in.
A new terminal tab opens to the same host, with the same credentials and jump chain, and starts in that folder.
Limits
- Windows hosts — the item is disabled, and its hint says Windows host. A Windows OpenSSH server runs
cmdor PowerShell, which can't take the start-in-folder command. A host's OS is detected the first time you open a terminal to it, so before that it's treated as Linux or Unix. - If the terminal can't be opened, you see Could not open a terminal for this folder.
Tips
- To go the other way, from a terminal to its files, use Explore SFTP on the host's menu.
- Use Split panes to keep a terminal next to another one on the same host.
