Terminal tabs
Every terminal, SFTP browser and remote file editor opens as a tab in the strip above the terminal. Tabs belong to the vault they were opened from, or to Local Terminals for shells on this computer.
Open a tab
- ⌘N / Ctrl+N — a new local shell, on the terminals page you're on.
- The + button at the end of the strip opens your default shell. Its caret lists every shell found on this computer (Open a shell).
- Double-click a host, or use Connect in its menu, for an SSH tab.
In a vault, the first item in the strip is Back to vault — it returns to the vault so you can pick another host.
What the tab shows
- A dot for the session's health: it turns red once the session has ended. SFTP tabs show a folder icon instead, and editor tabs a page icon with an amber dot for unsaved changes.
- A number when the tab is split into panes.
- A pulsing red dot while the session is being recorded.
- A broadcast icon while input goes to every pane.
- An X11 badge when GUI forwarding is live, with the number of GUI apps connected.
Rename, reorder, close
- Rename — double-click the tab, type, then press Enter. Esc cancels.
- Reorder — drag a tab. A bar shows where it will land.
- Close — the × on the tab, a middle-click, or ⌘W / Ctrl+W.
- Switch — Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab.
The tab menu
Right-click a tab:
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| Reconnect / Restart shell | Shown when the session has ended. Same as pressing R. |
| Duplicate (new SSH session) | A second, independent connection to the same host. For an SFTP tab: Duplicate (new SFTP session). |
| Duplicate | For a local shell: the same shell, in the same folder. |
| Rename | Edit the tab title. |
| Start recording / Stop recording | Records the focused pane. Pro. |
| Move left / Move right | Reorder without dragging. |
| Close, Close other tabs, Close tabs to the right | A split tab says how many panes it closes. |
Editor tabs have no Duplicate: one file, one editor.
Tips
- Switching vaults doesn't restart anything. Tabs in other vaults keep running and keep their scrollback.
- When no tab has focus, ⌘W / Ctrl+W hides the window instead of closing anything.
